Nebraska’s Most Expensive Home Ready To Generate Its Own Income

A mansion with a ton of space and plenty of future earning potential is available in Lincoln, NE, for $3.5 million. At the current price, it’s the Cornhusker State’s most expensive home.

The 16,089-square-foot estate on Holdrege Street sits on a whopping 78 acres, some of which will soon be generating income.

“The home itself is built on the top [of a hill] for all the wonderful views, but then, behind it, is an additional agricultural space that will soon become a beautiful solar energy project,” says the listing agent, Jeff Searcy.

The next owner won’t be able to see the solar farm from the house, but it “will be providing substantial annual income to the owner of the estate through the years to come,” Searcy explains.

Contracts are in place for the project for 40 years, and the plans state that the plant should be generating power by the end of 2021.

Built in 2002, the mansion has more than 50 windows to take advantage of the views of the city, which is about 3 miles away.

The vast expanse of land includes two lakes, and Searcy suggests that the acreage would be perfect for horses, fishing, private golf, weddings, or vineyards.

“I think that exceptional opportunities await someone that really wants to have a fabulous home setting, land, and a peaceful environment with some elbow room,” he says.

Inside, there are six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. Four of the bedrooms, including the master suite, are on the second floor.

The master suite overlooks the lakes and has its own balcony. According to Searcy, the huge closet space in the master suite will also appeal to a clotheshorse.

“The master closet is probably the size of a lot of master bedrooms,” he adds.

The other three bedrooms on the floor have attached bathrooms and walk-in closets.

Two more bedrooms are on the main floor, whose office areas, Searcy notes, could also be turned into bedrooms. The kitchen has a huge island, as well as plenty of storage and counter space.

Numerous options for entertaining include a theater room, a gym, and an indoor basketball court.

“There’s not that many in-home basketball courts,” Searcy says.

“The family is very active. They love using [the court] for volleyball and for pickleball. They have gotten a massive amount of joy and exercise out of those areas.”

A few years ago, the owners added on what they call the “West Wing” to add office space, a large room with a kitchen area, a bar, and a stage.

“It’s a great reception and entertainment space,” Searcy says. “It looks out over the lakes, and it just has a real inviting feel.”

Searcy says the house is move-in ready, but also offers plenty of leeway for the new owners to put their own stamp on it.

“I think for a lot of people, it would be a blank canvas to be able to establish the kind of finishes they may want, personal tastes—bringing it into the 2020s,” he says.

The home now has a lot of oak and neutral finishes, which might not appeal to today’s luxury buyers.

“Everyone’s tastes are different, but it certainly is open and ready to take advantage of this gorgeous setting and great living space.”
