Former Washington Nationals infielder Daniel Murphy has put his Alexandria, VA, home on the market for $1.6 million.

In late 2013, an older home on the oversized lot was purchased for $435,000. It was razed in favor of this modern twist on a Craftsman-style home completed in 2016.

The spec build went on the market for $1.5 million in February 2016, and was snapped up by the slugging infielder within a week at that price.

Located in the quiet neighborhood of Wellington Estates, Murphy’s Virginia home features five bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, and over 5,000 square feet of living space.

From the front of the home, curb appeal is readily apparent, thanks to the remarkable wraparound porch. As you enter the dwelling, the wide-open spaces and custom detailing will catch your eye.

Highlights include crown moldings, wainscoting, spacious hardwood hallways, and newel stair posts.

The open floor plan flows into the family area, which boasts a stone fireplace. Large glass doors open to the spacious deck, with a completely fenced and level backyard.

The chef’s kitchen offers an array of amenities, including a large quartz island, a commercial-grade, six-burner gas stove with double oven, a wall of cabinets, and bay window seating that serves as a breakfast nook.

The serving pantry has a coffee bar and a separate sink, as well as a wine fridge with bar seating.

Next to the kitchen is the two-car garage, with access through a mudroom featuring ample, built-in cubbies and a hidden bench for more storage.

On the upper level, the master suite comes complete with double doors, a lovely tray ceiling, and two walk-in closets. The lavish master bath comes with a classic slipper tub and an oversized vanity area.

The lower level is designed for entertaining, with a wet bar, stone fireplace, and a media room with built-in surround sound.

Less than a 10-minute drive to Old Town Alexandria, which offers a variety of great shops and dining along the waterfront, the property is also about 12 miles south of Nationals Park.

Murphy and his wife, Tori, also maintain a residence in Jacksonville, FL, in the gated enclave of the prestigious Glen Kernan Golf & Country Club. They purchased that property in 2016 for $1.4 million.

Murphy, 35, made his big league debut with the New York Mets in 2008. He’s a three-time All-Star and was the runner-up for the National League MVP in 2016, his first season with the Washington Nationals.

After leaving the nation’s capital, the versatile infielder signed a two-year, $24-million contract with the Colorado Rockies after the 2018 season.

The home is listed with Timothy and Liz Pierson with Keller Williams Realty Falls Church.
